Taste of Gold
$10,000, 71” x 50”
Created in honor of Olympic champion Simone Biles, “Taste of Gold” captures a moment of strength, grace, and extraordinary athleticism. The piece portrays Biles suspended mid-leap above the balance beam – an image that reflects both the power and precision that have defined her historic career. This large-scale wood mosaic is the product of over 225 hours of work and is composed of more than 8,600 individually cut wooden tiles. The golden tones of the leotard stand out dramatically against the darker background, emphasizing Biles’ movement and presence. Installed in the Taste of Gold restaurant at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, the piece celebrates perseverance, excellence, and the brilliance of one of the greatest gymnasts of all time.
Owing to the use of natural materials, the artwork should be maintained in a temperature-controlled environment, safeguarded from moisture and direct sunlight, to ensure the preservation of its beauty and structural integrity. Beyond its aesthetic qualities, this piece also functions as an effective sound diffuser, enhancing the acoustical character of any space.
