Every Rose Has Its Thorn
$6,200, 63.5” x 45”
Created for exhibition at Blue Hills Round Top, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” explores the balance between beauty and resilience through a bold desert-inspired composition. Constructed from hand-cut, painted, and placed wooden tiles, the piece features a blooming cactus crowned with a soft pink rose. The petals are built through layered wood elements that extend outward from the surface, giving the bloom a structural quality. Handcrafted cactus spines punctuate the deep green pads, creating contrast and texture while reinforcing the symbolism suggested by the title. This piece serves as a reminder that even the most beautiful things often come with their own strength and protection.
Owing to the use of natural materials, the artwork should be maintained in a temperature-controlled environment, safeguarded from moisture and direct sunlight, to ensure the preservation of its beauty and structural integrity. Beyond its aesthetic qualities, this piece also functions as an effective sound diffuser, enhancing the acoustical character of any space.
